Job Description


Develop firmware for Hanon’s rapidly evolving line of thermal and emissions products.

Typical Duties:

  • Develop and debug automotive firmware.
  • Support board bring-up for DC motor control electronics.
  • Debug new/untested electronic circuit designs and develop firmware to support and test these designs.
  • Provide customer centered solutions during the development and production portions of the product lifecycle.
  • Create or enhance internal development tools.
  • Write clear and descriptive software and product documentation.
  • Design, execute, and present validation test plans as part of the development cycle.
  • Validate products according to internal and external performance specifications.
  • Actively contribute in a small team environment.


Job Requirements

YEARS EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in automotive firmware design for electromechanical devices.


DEGREE: Bachelor’s Degree Electrical or Computer Engineering. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering will be accepted for a candidate with a demonstrated electronics background



  • Strong background in low-level embedded C development, i.e. interacting directly with microcontroller peripherals and software development without an operating system.
  • Thorough understanding of microcontroller architecture. Experience in 8 or 16 bit microcontroller architectures and/or fixed-point arithmetic is helpful.
  • Full product lifecycle experience, from product specification, through prototype hardware, and into production.
  • Experience with automotive and software development best practices: MISRA, code review, ISO26262, ASPICE, etc.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols: LIN, CAN, PWM, UART, I2C, SPI. Additional familiarity with automotive diagnostics or bootloaders is beneficial. 
  • Ability to read schematics. An understanding of analog and digital circuitry is desirable.
  • Comfortable with a variety of test and debug tools: J-Link or similar microcontroller debuggers, Vector CAN/Lin tools, Oscilloscope, Function Generator, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying formal problem solving methods to engineering challenges. 
  • Capable of contributing to a cross disciplinary environment; providing constructive feedback to hardware and mechanical design engineers and application engineers.
  • Programming experience in Python or LabVIEW is a plus.



  • Domestic and international travel occasionally may be required to suppliers, customer, and manufacturing plants.
