Job Description

A specialist in the field of computational aeroacoustics (CAA) modeling for automotive heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) modules, coolant pumps, compressors and heat exchanger products. The candidate is also responsible for using mathematical modeling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to analyze the airflow, pressure drop and temperature performance of HVAC modules.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Through the use of CFD / CAA tools and methods, provide design guidance to product development (PD) engineering to optimize the HVAC module performance in order to achieve customer targets.
  • Work with PD engineering, CFD / CAA software vendors, universities, etc., to develop and correlate advanced CAA models and processes to assess acoustic characteristics of an HVAC module, coolant pump, compressor and/or heat exchanger.
  • Leverage CAA analyses to find, fix and understand the root cause of noise performance issues discovered during product development and field testing.
  • Support Hanon’s efforts in obtaining new business through accurate and detailed CAE simulations, customer presentations and technology reviews while protecting Hanon’s competitive edge.
  • Be a leader / mentor, or possess the qualities and skills to become a leader / mentor, within the CAA field.
  • Work closely with PD engineering to offer timely solutions that positively impact project costs, timing, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Pursue tight collaboration with the Hanon NVH team for correlation of CAA methods with experimental test.
  • Document new CFD / CAA processes and techniques for deployment. Cascade process improvements with frequent updates and presentations. Coordinate some training of new methods to the Hanon CFD community and product development engineering.


Job Requirements

Years of Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of automotive CFD and CAA experience is required for a Master of Science candidate.
  • D. candidates must show evidence of a CAA related dissertation and significant course work.


Degree Preferred

Candidate is required to have a minimum of a Master of Science degree in engineering or equivalent.


Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the operation and function of typical automotive HVAC modules, coolant pumps, compressors and / or heat exchanger products.
  • Possesses aspects of a future technical leader and mentor in the field of HVAC CFD / CAA methodology.
  • Experience and technical knowledge in the utilization of a CFD solver such as ANSYS Fluent, SIMULIA PowerFLOW, Altair Acusolve, Siemens CCM+, etc., is required.
  • Experience and technical knowledge in the utilization of a CAA analysis tool such as Actran, VA One, etc., is required.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and employ new tools is required.
  • Experience with the Catia V5, Creo and/or UGNX CAD tools and programming languages (i.e. Python, C, etc.).
  • Experience in utilizing high performance computing systems and the UNIX/Linux operating system for high level CAE simulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
